To add to the title -

At some point in 2009-2012, I used to leave my computer on overnight and while I was at school, mining bitcoin. I can't remember how long for, it could've been for a couple of weeks or potentially months. I only remember it was within this time period because it overlapped with me playing Runescape (lol), and I quit playing in 2012 for 10 years or more.

I have sort of moved away from computers although in those days I was interested in gaming and beginner hacking. I was 15-17 and the hacking part is daft looking back at it. But what I'm really trying to say is I used to be fairly computer literate and now, not so much. I've been using macs for 12 years now.

So no matter whether it was a week or several months I left it mining overnight etc. for, there is likely a decent amount of bitcoin on the harddrive.

I don't have access to the email address I used in those years, I lost it about 5 years ago and seemingly can't recover it. ChatGPT tells me this likely isn't an issue as emails weren't used for sign up in the early days.

More advice was to remove the hard drive and back it up on a second hard drive, before opening. Do I have a stab at this myself? How do I do this? Can I plug hard drive into my mac to transfer to a second hard drive?

What if the hard drive was wiped? Would it be in any way possible to recover it?

If I manage to locate the wallet, will I need to remember the password? I believe it was a long set of random numbers and letters so will never remember unless I also have it saved on the computer somewhere.

What are my next steps?

So I tried this out and its actually really helpful, basically they look at wallets that have succesful trade records and then they filter out bots and swarms/bundlers and give you insights on the left over wallets.

Its a good way to navigate the trenches cause the bot detection alone really helps you know which tokens to stay away from, and the cool thing about the site is they dont claim to make you rich or to have 10000000x moonshots or anything its just good information about tokens.

I’m a 17 year old developer who’s been in the cryptocurrency field for a while now.

I wanted to ask you guys about different ways of purchasing crypto under 18.

All exchanges just as Coinbase, Kraken, etc. require you to be 18 and provide proof of identity to confirm this.

I have my own bank account under my name with access to Zelle. What I’ve been doing so far is using P2P sites like LocalCoinSwap and paying with Zelle to buy crypto off other people.

This method is extremely inefficient as many sellers on LocalCoinSwap ask for ID too and I really don’t want to send any documents to a complete stranger. The sellers that don’t ask for ID, add an insane premium like 15% or 20% on their prices.

Buying crypto just to instantly lose 20% of my money is not worth it in any way.

I'm thinking even if BTC drops to $52k this year, VTSAX would likely also be tanking, so I'd be exchanging near a low anyways. Wondering if I should just do it now? Thinking 30% into FBTC. I really liked the post yesterday talking about the floor of BTC and how your portfolio can be a much greater multiple in BTC instead.

In my opinion Bitcoin offers various benefits depending on how you use it. For example, the most basic level is holding Bitcoin through an ETF. You can't leave the country with your Bitcoin in just 12 memorized words, it's the most basic way to hold Bitcoin, only using it for the NGU.

It's slightly better if you hold Bitcoin on an exchange, at least you could send the BTC to someone else as money.

The next level is to hold it in self-custody with KYC. At least you no longer have the risk of the exchange going bankrupt or your accounts being blocked, but you're a slave to the government that knows about your BTC.

And the ultimate, best way is to hold it in self-custody without KYC. This is where all the benefits of BTC are unlocked, the most powerful way to fight the system.

If you're at the initial levels, I advise you to gradually work your way up to the higher level Bitcoin holding way.

Hey all, I will try to keep responding to replies on the original post, I got blocked from my own post because I was responding too quickly.

Here is the update, and we are wondering which way to go with this as we have the laptop working and the owner says she does remember that the wallet lived on the TOR browser. There are apparently two wallets that were available on TOR at that time: Electrum and Coinwallet. She believes it is Coinwallet.

That being said, we don't know much about TOR, but it makes sense to try and access TOR and hopefully Coinwallet on the original laptop, but we can't seem to connect, as it gets to 5% bootstrapping "connecting to directory server" in the log, and "connecting to a relay directory" under the Status bar.

Hoping someone could give us some guidance on how to proceed. We loaded TOR on her current laptop, and wasn't sure where to go from there. We also downloaded Coinwallet to her current laptop, running into the passphrase requirement. I believe there should be 12.

This brings us to the second avenue of approach, as we found a text file with 30,000 words, groups of numbers and number/letter combinations. About 270 of them are common with the 2048 word list. This list was apparently created by the person that set up the wallet/TOR for her and this person was a cybersecurity expert for the DoD. Might this be able to be parsed/decoded with a program? We entered the first 12 words that appeared on both lists in the order of appearance into the Coinwallet passphrase box on her current laptop with no success.

She is going to keep looking around on both drives (it was switched out between the dates of the first and last transactions on the Coinbase exchange log) to see if anything else jogs her memory.

As part of my promise to the community, I intend to be as transparent as possible regarding our developments or lack thereof without compromising sources or methods. This update is the definition of good and bad. I have split this into good news and bad news, followed by my final thoughts at the end.

Good news: I have some very positive news to report. We have continued to network with key stakeholders across the American sports industry, and we are being received incredibly well. We are engaging with executives who have no clue what Bitcoin is, yet they are still interested in working with us.

More importantly, we are finally providing the warning that the sporting world needs: a Bitcoin-only philosophy is the only way to safely market this space. Every other digital asset is a direct threat to existing sponsorship categories. Sports organizations have spent decades building relationships with banks and insurance companies. You cannot, in good faith, advertise crypto scams next to a legacy bank billboard without violating those long-standing arrangements.

Bitcoin is the only asset that can create its own brand-new category. Within the first few minutes of our introductions, we explain the risks of associating with anything outside of Bitcoin. We make it clear that by courting "crypto," they alienate the Bitcoin-only community, which is the most valuable and loyal demographic in this entire space. This education is working. We are actively forcing these conversations across the sports world, and it’s paving the way for an entirely Bitcoin-only future sooner than you think.

Bad news: To be brief, the industry is really struggling at the moment. While there is a ton of interest in sports, the current bear market has made it difficult for companies to commit to long-term deals. I think we are underestimating the level of financial strain hitting even the most well-known Bitcoin companies right now. You can feel it firsthand; things are tight, uncertainty is high, and risk appetite is low. We likely have more turbulence ahead, and I expect this year to be a tough one.

All in all, this is the best time ever to start a new Bitcoin business. Sure, we are struggling to get companies to commit to sports right now, but Rome wasn’t built in a day. The important thing is building these relationships and setting the foundation so the industry is ready to engage when the sector is back to being cash-flush.

I’ve had to admit to myself that I’ve failed so far in securing an activation before the summer. Timing just didn't work out, and in that, I'll do better for you all. Building now, while we are down from the all-time highs, is the right thing to do. Mainstream adoption doesn't come from Wall Street; it comes from Main Street, and Main Street loves sports. I don’t know why but I just remembered that I bought BTC in late 2014. I was out drinking with friends and we talked about something clompletely different, it just hit me. Now the problem, which probably isn’t that rare:

I created the wallet on blockchain.info and I know that I saved the keyphrase on an old phone which’s screen is probably smashed but still at home. But I have no idea what my wallet ID is.

The only thing I have left is login links (blockchain.info/wallet/long array of numbers and letters) to blockchain.info, which i used to create the wallet and buy BTC. But the website is down/leads to blockchain.com and the login link does nothing here, nor does my email seem to be registered anymore, since I don’t get a reset password mail.

I’m not into crypto at all but is there any chance that the coins are still there and I can find out my wallet ID somehow? I don’t know how many BTC would be in there, it’s probably not even a whole coin. But before I look through all my old devices I would like to know if it’s worth it.

Some of you might remember my post from about a month ago where I shared a children's book I made that contains all 2,048 BIP39 words — the idea being that you can use the Book Cipher method to encode your seed phrase as page-line-word references and store those numbers separately from the book. The post blew up way more than I expected (400+ upvotes), and I got a ton of valuable feedback.

The most upvoted criticism: "This is just security through obscurity." Almost 400 upvotes on that comment alone. Other common concerns: "Now everyone knows the book", "A children's book is weird if you don't have kids", and "Amazon knows who bought it."

I took all of that seriously. Here's what I did about it.

What changed

1. A second book — for adults this time.

Several people pointed out that a children's book is a hard sell if you don't have kids sitting on your shelf. Fair point. So I created "777 Wisdoms for Every Day" — a collection of 777 numbered wisdoms that also contains all 2,048 BIP39 words. It looks like any other inspirational book. On your nightstand, in your luggage, on your office shelf — nobody thinks twice about a wisdom book.

2. A new encoding option that didn't exist before.

Because every wisdom in the book is numbered (#1 through #777), you now have an alternative to classic page-line-word encoding. You can use wisdom-number + word-position instead. Or mix and match. Or invent your own scheme. The point is: even if someone knows the concept AND knows the book, they still don't know how you encoded your references. That directly addresses the "security through obscurity" criticism — there are now too many variables for a simple lookup.

3. The "everyone knows the book" problem got smaller, not bigger.

Counter-intuitively, having multiple books actually helps. There are now two completely different books designed for this (a children's story and a wisdom book), with multiple encoding methods each. An attacker would need to know: which book you used, which encoding scheme, and have physical access to your number sequence. That's a lot of unknowns.

What hasn't changed

• It's still an additional layer, not a replacement. Your metal plate / paper backup stays in place. The book cipher is a complementary copy with built-in obfuscation.
• Two-factor by design. Book alone = useless. Numbers alone = useless. You need both, stored in different locations.
• The travel use case. A wisdom book in your luggage raises zero suspicion at borders. The codes look like phone numbers or whatever you disguise them as. Try that with a Cryptosteel in your carry-on.
• Metal plate combo. Instead of engraving 24 seed words on metal (screams crypto), engrave the book cipher codes: 47-3-5, 112-7-2, 83-1-11, ... — same durability, but now it's meaningless numbers.

Honest take

Some of the criticism from last time was absolutely valid. Security through obscurity IS a weakness — when it's your only layer. But as one layer among several (different storage locations, passphrase, metal backup, flexible encoding), I think book cipher adds real value. The second book doesn't fix every concern, but it addresses the biggest ones: more book options, more encoding flexibility, and a version that doesn't look out of place for adults without kids.

I’m trying to find a crypto escrow payment service that people actually trust, and honestly this has been way more annoying than it should be.

I’m looking for something pretty simple in theory: an escrow service where both parties can use it for a transaction, the funds get held securely, and then once the conditions are met, the payment gets released. Basic escrow logic. But somehow, when you actually start searching for this in crypto, everything starts looking sketchy as hell within like 10 minutes.

Every time I find a platform, it’s either one of these random websites that looks like it was built in 2017 and never updated, or it has almost no real user reviews, or the reviews look fake, botted, or suspiciously generic. Some of them claim they’re “trusted by thousands” or “used for high-value deals,” but then you go looking for actual proof, community feedback, Reddit threads, or any kind of real reputation, and there’s basically nothing solid. That’s the part that’s making this hard. If I’m moving real money, I’m not trying to be someone’s test transaction on some half-dead escrow platform with zero accountability.

What I’m specifically looking for is an escrow payment service that has actual trust behind it — meaning a decent reputation, real reviews, ideally some known usage history, and not something that feels like it could disappear overnight. If anyone here has actually used one for larger transactions, milestone-based payments, OTC deals, service payments, or anything similar, that would be really useful to know. I care way more about real-world reliability than fancy marketing copy.

Fast execution also matters a lot. I don’t want some system where everything takes forever, support is slow, or releases get stuck in weird manual review limbo for no reason. If it’s supposed to be crypto, it should at least feel smoother than traditional escrow, not somehow worse.

Also, a big plus would be support for multiple chains or currencies. That part matters because a lot of these services seem to support only one network or one token ecosystem, which makes them less useful. Ideally I’d want something flexible — whether that means major chains, stablecoins, multiple wallets, or broad asset support. Doesn’t need to support every random chain on earth, but at least something practical.

Right now, most of the options I’ve seen just don’t feel trustworthy enough to actually use for serious transactions. Maybe I’m missing the obvious answer, or maybe crypto escrow is still somehow this underdeveloped despite how long the space has been around.

So yeah — if anyone here knows a real escrow platform that is:

•trusted, •has legit reviews / community reputation, •executes quickly, •and supports multiple networks or currencies, 

please drop it.

Because at this point, finding a non-sketchy crypto escrow service feels harder than finding a trustworthy guy in Telegram named “brother” with 17 vouches and an anime profile pic.

Still hoping someone here has a genuinely solid recommendation.

If you don't run a Signet node already, syncing one should be pretty straightforward. It should use about 30GiB of storage, and you can run `-prune` if even that is too much.

The result? I think I found Bitcoin's version of the 4% rule. And the math is almost absurd.

The logic chain

People need to save for the future. The best savings technology is the hardest money. Bitcoin is the hardest money ever created. Therefore people will save in bitcoin. Not everyone knows this yet. Old habits die hard.

The power law (Santostasi, expanded by Krueger and Sigman in "Bitcoin One Million") is the best model for how this adoption unfolds. The core relationship: every time bitcoin ages 1.5x, the price goes roughly 10x. Not hype cycles. Compounding network adoption following the same laws we see in city growth, earthquake magnitude, and species evolution.

The floor is the breakthrough

The power law model shows a trend line with a corridor of possibilities around it. The ceiling is compressing: early cycles hit 10x trend, recent ones barely 2x. But the floor has never been breached. Since 2010, the lower boundary at about 0.43x the trend value has held through every crash, every panic, every obituary.

It held when bitcoin crashed from 10x the trend. From 5x. From 3x. With upside volatility structurally compressing, the floor only gets stronger coming down from 2x or less.

What does this floor look like in dollar terms?

March 2026: $56,400.

March 2027: $77,700.

March 2028: $105,300.

March 2029: $140,500.

March 2030: $184,800.

The floor value of 1 bitcoin will grow more than $21,000 over the next 12 months. And that dollar growth accelerates every year.

That floor growth is your yield. Not interest. Not dividends. Structural adoption growth baked into the math. And it changes everything about retirement planning.

The Bitcoin 4% rule

The traditional 4% rule says you can withdraw 4% from an S&P portfolio annually without running out. The 4% buffer exists to handle sequence of returns risk: bad early years can permanently damage a retirement.

Bitcoin needs a different system. Higher returns but far more volatility. A decelerating growth rate that demands dynamic withdrawals, not fixed percentages. So I based my framework on floor growth alone:

If your stack x floor growth > your yearly expenses = financial freedom.

This is the most conservative number the model produces. Bitcoin spends only a tiny fraction of its time near the floor. Everything above it is pure upside cushion.

The math

The floor currently grows at roughly 39% per year (this rate slowly decelerates over decades). At today's price of about $67,000, 5 BTC costs $335,000.

Annual floor growth on 5 BTC: approximately $110,000.

Under the traditional 4% rule, $100,000/year requires a $2,500,000 S&P portfolio.

Same spending power. $335,000 versus $2,500,000. Over 7x more capital efficient. Using the worst case path the power law produces.

Three tailwinds

Once you cross the floor freedom line, three forces compound in your favor. Volatility decays: the price corridor compresses roughly 20% each halving cycle, so the "storm years" at the start of retirement expire. The floor keeps rising: your safety net grows every day. And your BTC-denominated expenses shrink: you need fewer sats each year to cover the same dollar amount. The risk is front-loaded and finite.

I built a Monte Carlo simulator with 100,000 simulations based on 15 years of historical volatility data. The result: the floor-based approach survives the storm years and the margin of safety widens every year you hold. With 20 BTC, survival is 100% across all simulations at $3,000/month withdrawals. Even at 10 BTC, it is 72%. The three tailwinds working together make this more robust than the traditional 4% rule, which has a roughly 95% historical success rate over 30 years.

The honest caveats

The power law could break. 15 years is not 150 years. The floor growth rate decelerates over time. Black swan events outside model bounds are possible. This framework only works if the power law holds. Nothing is ever 100%.

But consider this: bitcoin is currently trading at 1.19x the floor. Just 19% above the worst case. Historically that is an extremely cheap entry. Most of the time bitcoin sits at 2-3x the floor. The premium you pay today is recovered through less than one year of floor growth.

Bottom line

If you can buy 5 BTC today, you are building the functional equivalent of a $2.5 million traditional retirement portfolio. At a fraction of the cost. Backed not by a fixed percentage rule, but by the structural growth of the most robust boundary in the most predictive model in finance.

And right now, bitcoin is trading at just 19% above that floor. The setup is almost too clean.

Would you send the btc to a new address generated on trezor 7, or just set up the new trezor using seed words from original trezor? Any difference in security down the road that way?

Really hope he’s ok and this does not signify him admitting defeat for btc. Anyone have any other news on it? Poor guy. Sending him best wishes. He’s the only reason I got into this space. As a developer who holds Bitcoin, I spent a lot of time looking for a lightweight, auditable tool for cold storage that I could run on an air-gapped machine. GUI wallets felt opaque, hardware wallets require trusting vendor firmware, and other CLI tools were either abandoned or didn't follow modern BIP standards. So I built my own.

bitcold is an open-source CLI for generating BIP39 mnemonics, deriving BIP84 native SegWit addresses, and signing transactions — all completely offline. No network requests, no external APIs, no telemetry. Just your keys on your air-gapped machine.

For me, the big shift was when I stopped looking at Bitcoin like a quick move and started looking at it like long term savings.

At first I was checking price way too much, every dip felt bad and every pump made me think I was smart lol. But after some time, learning more, moving my stack off exchange, and just sitting with it, the whole thing started to feel different.

With everything going on in the region lately, I’ve been thinking more about the Gulf of Aden and how critical it is for global shipping routes. Do you guys think there’s a real possibility that it could be closed or heavily restricted, especially with rising geopolitical tensions around Yemen? Has anybody here ever liquidated (sold) a large amount of bitcoin, let‘s say 50k US$ or more? How did that go?

Taiwanese lawmaker Ko Ju-Chun said last year that the country’s Ministry of Justice holds 210 Bitcoins, worth $14 million, confiscated during criminal investigations.

Taiwan should reconsider adopting Bitcoin as a reserve asset to hedge against global turmoil and the risk of war, according to a research fellow at the Bitcoin Policy Institute.

In a report on Tuesday, Jacob Langenkamp said that should China pursue reunification with Taiwan by military force, either through a blockade or full invasion, Bitcoin would be the only reserve asset that would remain fully accessible and spendable.

“Uniquely for Taiwan, Bitcoin provides geopolitical resilience: in a PRC blockade or invasion, gold is stranded or seized and USD reserves face potential restrictions, but Bitcoin remains fully accessible without physical transport,” he added.

Nation-states have begun to explore the idea of launching strategic Bitcoin reserves, seen as a bullish signal for Bitcoin.

Last year, Taiwan’s central bank sought to investigate establishing a national Bitcoin reserve. However, the bank ruled it out in December, citing volatility, liquidity and custody concerns and instead identified the US dollar as a safer alternative.

Taiwan is heavily exposed to the risks of US dollar debasement, Langenkamp said, because its central bank reserves are at least 80% in USD-denominated assets, as is most of its trade.

Growing US debt, Federal Reserve monetary expansion, a potential AI market downturn and declining semiconductor revenues could also accelerate dollar debasement, he said.

“Bitcoin can couple with gold to offer that hedge against USD debasement. It can provide another opportunity for the CBC to adopt a reserve asset before its peers and benefit the people of Taiwan with the subsequent price appreciation,” Langenkamp added.

“It can offer geopolitical insurance against scenarios that hopefully do not come to pass. It can open new methods of trade with less friction. Bitcoin can provide Taiwan with a great measure of monetary resilience.”

Langenkamp also argued that the CBC's concerns about Bitcoin's liquidity and volatility are valid, but contended that both issues will diminish as the asset matures and gains adoption among nations.

“The CBC's concerns are valid but addressable with institutional expertise on custody, liquidity, and volatility,” he added.

Despite ruling out a Bitcoin reserve for now, the CBC committed to testing the technology further in a digital asset sandbox using the crypto the country already holds.

A friend of mine has been buying Bitcoin since 2023, $50 every day. From the time the price is below $70k, he is buying double ($100 each day).

He believes that one day BTC will go to $1M+, and then he'll decide whether to sell or keep holding.

Long story, so here's the TLDR: I had a self-directed Roth IRA that held bitcoin as an asset. I took self-custody of the bitcoin (NYKNYC), and that opened a whole can of worms concerning the IRA, the custodian, the exchange, taxes, and the IRS.

My accountant couldn't help me, so he referred me to another accountant who couldn't help me, who referred me to a lawyer, who...couldn't help me. So I asked my Estate attorney for a referral. He referred me to a lawyer who also couldn't help me, but that one referred me to attorney Ari Good in Miami.

I am trying to create a xouh to recover a lost wallet will this work? What website can I do this on my phone. Everyone on Reddit is dming to create a coin to recover the funds and I can’t figure out how to.

I have 2 different wallets, a Trezor and a Ledger. I've had the ledger for a few years now and never had any issues. I've properly secured my seed phrases, meaning no pictures of it on a computer file lol or where someone would have easy access to them.

However, I'm aware that there are some people that have discussed potential issues with this particular wallet company and wanted to know what others on here thought.

My biggest concern with crypto is not the volatility, but rather outright losing my assets.

One concern is the leaking of customer information, which is something I've seen with other crypto related companies as well (Celsius bankruptcy, exchanges, etc.). This seems like a huge opening for "wrench attacks".

However, my biggest concern is if there is some sort of backdoor to customer funds, pertaining to the seed phrase backup in particular. This is not something that I've had setup, but it does raise eyebrows a bit.

I started accumulating BTC at the end of last year. I live in Brazil and buy 200 to 500 BRL (40 to 95 USD) worth of BTC per month.

I know there are a ton of free apps like CoinGecko or block explorers that give basic price alerts. But I always found them either too basic or too clunky to set up for anything advanced.

So I spent the last few weeks building my own smart alert tool. The difference is it uses AI/natural language. You just type what you want in plain English.

Currently, I'm expanding it beyond just price. I'm adding triggers for:

• Mempool fee spikes (so you know when to consolidate UTXOs)
• Exchange inflows/outflows (whale movements)
• Funding rates & Open Interest

My question for the community: Is this over-engineering? Beyond day traders, what kind of Bitcoiner actually needs this level of customizable, instant alerts in their daily setup? Would love to know if I'm building something people actually want.

Things appear stable at the moment. All the broke normies have about as much BTC as they can get, adding little bits here and there.

I don't understand who anyone thinks will create generational / institutional pumps other than... Institutions. Which then get normies to add what little they can (if not taking out loans for it) before subsequently rug pulling yet again.

BTC is the perfect hedge against inflation, but none of the inflation actually goes into the pockets of normies, it's literally just cronies printing money for each other, so how does that work out in practice?

So I have transferred the entire balance of an old Electrum wallet to a hw wallet, for security reasons. I’m new to bitcoin , and im trying to find not sure the terminology. ( Exchange or Wallet ) im just wanting to buy bitcoin and be able to send it to someone . I’ve downloaded all the “mainstream” apps. Coinbase , Crypto etc , but its way to much verification, and im not a fan of putting my IDs on these apps .

Not gonna lie, this stretch feels like one of those periods where nothing crazy is happening on the surface but a lot is quietly building underneath.

Price isn’t doing much to grab headlines, sentiment is split, and half the posts are either “we’re going to the moon tomorrow” or “it’s over.” Meanwhile Bitcoin just keeps running like normal.

What stands out right now is big players don’t seem to be leaving, volatility feels kinda compressed, and retail interest isn’t euphoric at all which is usually when things get interesting. Feels like more people are focused on short term moves instead of long term positioning.

This kind of “boring” phase usually doesn’t last. Not calling direction, I’m just stacking and staying patient.

What’s everyone else doing right now?

I’ve been stacking up BTC since 2020, not really DCAing but always trying to buy the dip with whatever I had left from my salary (which, as a uni student who moves around, isn’t really consistent). During the last cycle, which I was sure would set a new ATH, I realized that I missed an opportunity of a lifetime, which doesn’t come very often. Don’t get me wrong, I was up (and still am) on my position, but even a 100% return (which is huge, I know) does not mean big money in my case, as I don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars invested.

So I decided that, even if I still continue to invest on a monthly basis in BTC, I would be ready for the next ATH, which means trying to leverage it. Now, I’m not that crazy, or I don’t have enough courage — whatever you prefer — to risk my savings to buy leveraged BTC, as I couldn’t handle such a huge loss. Since I’m really into stocks and have also dealt with options, I thought that this might be the perfect fit for me. I’m willing to lose the premium as long as I understand the risk and know that it cannot bankrupt me.

My first thought was to get some options of (Micro)Strategy, but these are way too expensive. One LEAP (Jan 2028) is about 5k, which is a little bit too much for me for a single contract. So I thought of MARA Holdings, which has a lower stock price and therefore lower premiums on LEAPS (like 300–400 bucks). I understand that this also implies that my gains would be smaller. The main problem is the high implied volatility — about 95% for MARA and around 70% for Strategy — which almost makes it not worth buying the options instead of BTC itself. I realized that I could try going for the IBIT ETF stock options, with an implied volatility of about 50%. Still high, but it doesn’t eat up all the potential gains and allows you to leverage a bit by “just” risking the premium.

So let’s look at the following scenario: if BTC were to reach the old ATH (which I actually think will be surpassed in the next cycle), then the IBIT ETF would gain about +90% (same as BTC from today’s price). Based on the option I buy, it should return about 150%. This would allow me to leverage the trade by roughly 1.5x to 2x if we reach new highs. This scenario refers to an option expiring in January 2028 (which costs about 1200 bucks, depending on the strike price).

I’m confident that BTC will keep rising, and until now I didn’t care too much as I kept stacking, but if I pursue this strategy I need to be confident about the timeframe. I’m no magician, which is why I would buy LEAPS and not short term options, to increase the probability of success.

I’ve been trying to look at the chart and find similarities between past cycles and halvings. BTC has always peaked about 545–570 days after the halving (~18 months), and this has been quite consistent. It has also usually reached a bottom after a new ATH in about one year (360–380 days), which would coincide with November 2026. Typically, after reaching the bottom, BTC tends to stagnate or accumulate for about a year before gaining momentum ahead of the next halving.

I’m confident that from now on BTC will not go much lower than the 60k level we already touched, so if I were to buy BTC itself I wouldn’t be too worried. But when it comes to options, time is your enemy. Thefore I´m not sure wether to buy LEAPS in this period or wait for the end of 2026. Currently Russia is shutting down mobile internet because they want more control over what apps the population consumes and uses. People can no longer pay with cards or smartphones. So they can’t use Bitcoin either. In Iran, the majority of people no longer have internet access either. So they can’t use Bitcoin as well. Is its future use at risk? Because governments are realizing that the population is becoming too independent of them?

Hey, I always wanted to work for bitcoin or be a blockchain developer. I don't really know yet but I want to have a career oriented to bitcoin. So I finally decided to level up my cold storage backup game and bought a SeedPlate from amazon (you know, the steel wallet backup thing). Arrived today, looks solid, feels heavy.

But here’s the thing — I cannot get the damn plate open.

It looks like it’s held together by tiny screws, but they won’t turn. Not with a screwdriver, not with a coin, not even with pliers. It’s like they’re welded or glued from the factory. I tried both directions in case they’re reverse-threaded — nothing.

Am I supposed to break it open? Did I accidentally buy a “permanently sealed” version? Or is this some kind of tamper-proof feature before first use?

I don’t want to damage it, but right now I’ve got an expensive metal brick that I can’t even stamp my seed into.

Printed out the BIP 39 2048 word list. cut it all up (took a fucking while) but now it’s all done. chose my 23 words and had seed signer calculate the 24th. originally wanted to do dice but still was paranoid to trust its math… even after verifying several sets of rolls on ian coleman’s website. Mind you I also verified seedsigner os before running it on the seedsigner hardware. this should be the best trustless way to generate a seed phrase as you generate 23 words even if the seed signer math screws you somehow (you still choose from a limited amount of checksums for the 24th word). No better way to generate your own seed phrase… 2048 words in a hat over everything else.

CPI is a lagging, curated basket that gets adjusted every time reality gets uncomfortable. Substitutions, hedonic adjustments, weighting changes, all designed to smooth the numbers.

Meanwhile:

• M2 money supply exploded post-2020
• Asset prices went vertical
• Cost of living didn’t “2-3%” it jumped

And we’re supposed to believe inflation is “under control”?

You don’t measure inflation with a shopping list.
You measure it with money supply expansion.

More dollars chasing the same goods = prices go up. It’s not complicated. CPI exists to make monetary policy look responsible. That’s it.

If you actually want a hedge against real inflation, you don’t hold dollars.
You hold scarce assets.

I’ve been getting deeper into Bitcoin lately, and I’m starting to notice a gap between how it’s supposed to work (as a form of money) and how people actually use it.

Most of what I see is people holding long term, not really spending it unless there’s a specific reason. At the same time, there are tools now that make spending easier than before.

So I’m curious how people here personally approach it do you ever actually use it when you can, or do you see it more as something you just accumulate and leave alone?

when bitcoin hovers right at a previous cycle's all-time high instead of getting slapped down, it shows that buyers are stepping up and easily eating all the sell pressure. grinding sideways at the ultimate ceiling builds a massive launchpad for price discovery, because once it breaks through, there is zero historical resistance left to hold it back. with the post-halving supply shock in full effect, holding this exact line has historically been the ultimate springboard for a parabolic run.

I’m posting this to see if anyone has gone through something similar or can advise.

My Stake account was recently compromised, and unauthorized bets were placed without my knowledge. My balance was around 2 BTC ($200K CAD) and is now completely gone.

The activity happened while I was not actively using the account, and I have reason to believe it was accessed by a third party.

I have:

• Completed ID verification with Stake

• Reported the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC)

• Filed a police report in British Columbia

Despite this, Stake support responded saying they cannot refund funds lost through betting or account activity, even though this was clearly unauthorized.

What concerns me is that there seems to be no proper investigation into account compromise, and everything is being treated as a normal loss.

I’m trying to understand:

• Has anyone successfully escalated a similar case with Stake?

• Is there any way to get this reviewed by a higher-level security or compliance team?

Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated.

Whenever I suggest to look into Bitcoin I'm treated like a snake oil salesman or ignored altogether. So many people are drowning and it doesn't feel like enough people are catching on. I must have totally misunderstood how a HW wallet works: I initialized it today by reading the QR code from my BlueWallet wallet, and everything went well, or at least I think it did. Except that I realize that I must have totally misunderstood how a HW wallet works: I was under the impression that from now on, I would have to use this device to make a transaction, but this is not the case, I just sent a very small amount to my second wallet, and it worked just like before. What has changed is that I now have a Blockstream app on my phone which also allows me to make transactions (and I also can open it without needing the Jade, and also initiate a transaction. However i didn’t go through, so maybe I would need the Jade at some point?) So if anything, my wallet is now less secure, since there are two apps which give access to it??

Concerning the Jade, if I try to switch it on, I have to enter the PIN (no problem), but then it displays a QR code on its tiny screen, which I should read from within the Blockstream app. Except that the camera can’t focus on it if it’s close enough to be big enough, and if it’s far enough to be in focus, it’s too small to be read. And this is an iPhone with two cameras, it makes great pictures.

So is there another way to use it? Or did I buy a useless device?

If these questions are stupid, can you point me to somewhere where all this is explained?

Markets are pretty rough right now with everything going on globally, but I'm trying to stay focused on the long-term picture. Things always seem to work themselves out eventually, even if the recovery process gets messy.

Right now I'm treating every dip as a chance to add to my position. Been setting aside a portion of each paycheck and buying small amounts whenever we hit new local lows. No way to time the exact bottom obviously, but dollar cost averaging on the way down has worked well for me in the past.

My productivity tracker app actually sends me alerts when the price drops more than 8% so I don't miss these windows. Might sound a bit obsessive but it's helped me stay disciplined about accumulating during volatile periods like this one.

Just stumbled on this shady operation where some influencer was pushing a site called crypllet or something similar. The whole pitch was basically "hey go make a wallet, load it up with crypto, then enter your seed words on our site to see if they've been leaked in any breaches"

Like come on, anyone with half a brain knows you never enter your recovery phrase anywhere except when restoring an actual wallet. This is obviously just harvesting seed phrases to drain wallets later. Can't believe people might actually fall for this but I guess that's how these scams keep working

The red flags are everywhere - why would you need to buy crypto first to check if words were compromised, and why would any legit service ask for your actual seed phrase instead of just a hash or something. Stay safe out there folks

I've seen it happen so many times now. The louder someone gets about their portfolio gains, the more people around them start hating on crypto in general. It's not even about whether Bitcoin is good or bad at that point, it's just human nature getting in the way

i was 24 and i thought i understood the market. to be fair i got some things right early. but "getting things right early" in crypto just means you got lucky in a bull market, and there's no way to know the difference in the moment.

when my portfolio hit $40k i thought about taking it out. i didn't. i told myself it was still early and i could grow it more. the next three months were not kind.

the part i think about most: when i was up, i could have paid off my student loans and had money left. i would have been materially in a better place than before i started. instead i chased the next level.

Where would you put new money right now—into BTC or keeping it as cash?

I’ve bought a Blockstream Jade and I have spent a few hours to familiarize myself with the features of it, and by now I know how to set it up.

However I have a question that I need to know before setting it up with my wallet:

If I set it up, I understand that I will need the device to see my balance and to make transactions, right? But what happens if I can’t use the Jade anymore (if I lose it, if it stops working, if I forget the password/pass code))? Will I still be able to create a new wallet with my seed phrase? And this new wallet will work on its own, without the Blockstream Jade? (I’m guessing yes, but I don’t wanna take any chances).

You will never find a perfect buying spot. Keep buying when you can afford to, DCA, and hodl. Forget trying to time the bottom. Just keep buying that's it. And always have money to buy. Don't be so hard. It's not that hard.

this dip reminds me of 2022 when both bitcoin and the stock market were crashing. Back then i sold all my stocks and was putting it all into bitcoin. I remember the stock market recovered first and it felt like i missed out, and it wasnt until a bit later btc recovered and i made big money. But if the same were to happen isnt it smarter to use all your money to buy the stock market dip and once it starts to recover you transition the money into bitcoin? i know we cant time the market but im curious on what you guys think

You haven't actually lost anything until you hit that sell button. It's wild how many people, particularly newcomers, treat a 30% dip like it's the apocalypse.

Looking beyond crypto for a second - traditional markets go through downturns roughly every decade. Way too many jumped into bitcoin expecting it to be some magical asset that defies gravity forever, instead of understanding it's volatile like any other investment.

If you're celebrating when BTC hits $130k or $150k, then you better have the stomach for when it drops back to $60k or even $40k. That's just how this works.

Hello my fellow bitcoin people!!! Just wanted to share my experience with bitcoin and investing. Some may share my same point of view, some may not. I do value others input, ideas, and beliefs because I believe we can all learn something from each other. Let’s keep it cordial as much as possible.

A personal friend of mine for many years that I had no idea was into bitcoin gave me very good advice when I brought up my frustration with bitcoin. I have learned that bitcoin OG’s kept it to themselves in real life and for good reason.

My friend then asked the most important question that we should all ask ourselves. “What are your true intentions with bitcoin and what outcome are you looking for?” My answer was monetary value because I believe bitcoin is truly ahead of its time and the value will continue to rise. Do I believe there is money to be made like in the past, no I do not. I don’t believe bitcoiners joining in the past 2 years to now will have the opportunity for exponential gains for low purchase prices. But there will be gains in the future.

My friend answered with ORDERS. If you know, you know. Orders have been a god send. It takes the emotion out of the buying experience. What I was informed to do was have a price in my head of what I am willing to pay for bitcoin. Set buys at that price and stage down from there and forget about it. If they never fill, the money is still there and not lost to the market. When they fill it is like a Christmas present out of nowhere!!! It’s kind of like DCAing over a longer period of time with larger amounts set aside. I would call it “QCA” for quarterly.

So I got curious about what happens if you just buy bitcoin and forget about it for exactly 5 years. Had an AI run the numbers on every possible 5 year window since bitcoin started trading

Results from 959 different 5-year periods between august 2010 and january 2026:

Key findings:

- average return was 18229% which is insane but misleading because early buyers skew it hard

- median return was 3108% so your typical 5 year holder made 32x their money

- 958 out of 959 periods made profit thats 99.9% success rate

Only ONE losing period ever: bought december 18 2017 right at the top around 18900 and sold december 16 2022 during that FTX mess at 16600. Lost 12%

Breaking it down by when you started buying:

- 2010-2013 buyers got stupid rich because they bought at literal pennies

- Even 2018 which was terrible timing still averaged 346% returns

- 2021 buyers only have partial data but already averaging 145%

The distribution is wild - almost half of all 5 year holds returned between 1000-10000% and three quarters made over 100%

basically if you can handle holding for 5 years you win unless you have the absolute worst timing in history. Even then you only lose 12% which beats a lot of other investments during crashes

median person turns 1 dollar into 32 dollars over 5 years. Not bad for doing literally nothing

I was a junior in highschool, and BTC came up in the same conversations as Octopussy. My friends and i heard that for like $5 we could get a bunch of btc and someone on the dark web might actually send us drugs. At the time the cheapest hit of wholesale 'cid i could get was $2 a tab, $50 for the sheet. So if this worked, it would 10X my profit.

The acid came in a birthday card. I was amazed but didn't bother to continue with it.

The person who introduced me to the whole concept also accepted my measly $5 and bought the BTC. Yes, he has quite a few left over and continued to be involved long term, didn't work much after highschool.

I first remembered my involvement in Btc when it hit $4K. Couldn't believe it, but bought a little just for nostalgia. Then at $8K i bought more but not much, because who tf thought it would ever get to $8 fucking K.

When it hit $16K i started dollar-cost averaging weekly deposits. No regrets. I'm happy to be in at all, some people STILL don't hold any BTC.

I recently uncovered a wallet that was “dormant” for a long time, and I have realized that it is an Electrum wallet with a 13 word pass phrase. This is a problem for me, mainly because there’s no Electrum app for iPhone and my computer is practically obsolete (but still working for the time being), and I don’t want to get a new computer. From what I read, there’s no way to convert my pass phrase into a standard 12-word pass phrase, and I have to move my balance onto a new wallet via a normal bitcoin transaction. My question is: how much is this gonna cost me in fees? Or is there a way to transfer it for free, since both wallets belong to me? Also, is BlueWallet a good wallet app? If not, what would you recommend?

Nearly a decade and a half holding Bitcoin now - grabbed my initial stack when it was trading around $9. Made it through all the brutal bear markets, constantly wondering if we'd finally reached the end.

Each crash felt like Bitcoin might actually die for good. Every major drop had me questioning everything.

But here we are. Bitcoin keeps bouncing back stronger than before. This current pullback is just another blip on the radar compared to what we've weathered in the past.

Why does the majority of the market treat crypto, or Bitcoin in particular, like high risk stocks which promise returns which they can't deliver, instead of just buying Bitcoin which goes up through scarcity? It should be a no-brainer to put capital there, instead of keeping it invested in companies which are over their head in debt and won't make any profits.

The first time I got into Bitcoin was through Telegram. There was a bot that would give you a few sats every day for free. All you had to do was link your email, and those sats would eventually show up in your Coinbase account, along with some pretty questionable altcoins.

The catch was that you needed to reach a minimum amount before you could withdraw. So I waited about 4 or 5 days. Right when I was about to send my sats, the bot got reported and shut down. I never managed to withdraw anything. In total, I think I had accumulated something like $0.05 cent.

To this day, I still don’t understand why that bot existed or where those sats came from. But I clearly remember the feeling: it was basically worthless… yet it felt good to have sats.

This happened sometime between 2015 and 2017 (I’m not exactly sure), but I do remember seeing Bitcoin around $15k at some point.

Since I was underage and had no money, I never bought any Bitcoin myself. I lost interest and stopped using Coinbase. Eventually, I even lost access to my account after receiving an inactivity notice.

Years later, in 2025, I tried to get back into it. I bought a $300 course that basically taught me how to buy BTC on Binance, move it to a hot wallet… and repeat forever. It was disappointing. It felt like there wasn’t much real value, so I decided to stop trusting those kinds of “mentorships.”

But this time, I didn’t fully walk away. I started doing my own research and found communities where people actually discuss Bitcoin in a deeper way.

In my country, the social security system I contribute to doesn’t feel very reliable. It honestly feels like it could fail in the future. So I’m considering using Bitcoin as a long-term savings strategy: buying a percentage of my income on the first day of every month, regardless of price, as a way to prepare for retirement.

The idea is to steadily accumulate sats. Maybe use Binance to buy, take advantage of flexible savings options to earn a bit more, and then, every time I reach certain milestones (like a few thousand dollars), move everything to a cold wallet.

But I still have some important concerns.

For example, KYC. If I buy through exchanges like Binance, my identity is linked to those coins. And seeing cases in countries like France, where criminals target people known to hold Bitcoin, makes me wonder if something similar could happen in Latin America.

I also question whether using “no-KYC” platforms like Hodl Hodl really makes a difference, if in the end you often rely on payment methods like PayPal that still require verification—and usually come with higher fees.

So I’d like to open the discussion:

• Should KYC really matter if Bitcoin is supposed to be pseudonymous?
• Is buying on Binance, accumulating, and periodically moving to cold storage a solid strategy?

so i've been getting these random coinbase notifications for months and finally decided to check what was going on. remembered i had maybe like 7 bucks sitting there from way back when i bought something online that required bitcoin

logged into my account expecting to see basically nothing and there's over 2400 sitting there. took me a minute to process what i was looking at

did some digging and apparently that leftover change was from late 2015 when i made some random purchase. crazy how that small amount just sat there growing

now i'm kicking myself thinking about what would've happened if i had been putting even 10 bucks aside every couple weeks since then. the math is pretty wild when you run those numbers

probably gonna leave it alone and see where it goes from here. not really planning to touch it anytime soon

Each paycheck is now worth ~0.19% of my total sats. I have been in the space a bit. I am a little dead inside due to "same shit different day" mentality in this space. The price is getting smaller. I see the typical calls for people to hodl on or jump in or increase DCA. Quality memes are nowhere to be found. It reminds me of past bear cycles.

What helps me during times like this is to remember the fundamentals. Nothing has changed. Blocks are still being solved about every 10 minutes. Code is still being written. Proposals are still being discussed/modified/dropped/fought over. Bitcoin is still based on real-world resources. People are still saying that bitcoin is dead/dying/ponzi scheme. People I know that make 3-5x my salary still think it is only used to wash dirty money.

I have no grand secret or huge life lesson for you, simply because bitcoin is boring (also its most important feature). The messaging is always the same. Adopt a low time preference.

On my Jade there are no option to create.. I have bip 85 .. which creates me a new seed, which i can use with passphrase. But i want the same seed + passphrase..

Around March 2028 the Bitcoin having will kick in for the next halving step. Today the reward is about 3.125 BTC. After the next halving the reward should be about 1.5625 BTC. Today we are hovering around $70K per BTC. All thing being equal would a would the price have to rise significantly, for say for the sake of argument $140K, to makeup for the drop in reward? Maybe there will be drop in global hash rate when the halving happens? It seems to me if the price of BTC does not start climbing mining may be much less profitable and miners will get unplugged?

Watched a video today I like hearing both sides often so I can try to test myself on my knowledge but I have ways to learn. Help me debunk this argument that this youtuber claims btc does not support the properties of good currency.

I'm setting up some payment portals for my company using BTCpay. One of the things I was most excited about is being able to accept payments from people using paypal, cashapp, etc. as since those support buying/sending BTC, it would allow us to take payments from people that only have (or want to use) those apps.

• First issue: You can't just say "Send this person $100 of bitcoin". And have BTC sent using your USD balance (with the purchase happening in the background). You have to first buy $100 worth, then send that balance. Okay, no worries. An extra step. Not the worst thing.
• Second issue: They don't care if you get $10000000 in USD, or buy $1000000 in crypto, but the second you dare move it off their platform, you better answer every question they want to ask about you. I tried to send $100 of BTC and had to KYC myself. Note that I've had this account forever (they know who I am). I have my real life bank accounts tied to this account and have transfered a lot of $usd on/off. So I'm not sure why the extra info is needed just because I want to send someone BTC.
• tldr: I feel like these companies (cashapp/paypal, etc) are just faux supporting BTC/crypto. In reality they just want to make it easier for you to keep your $ in their system. They want to make it as drop dead easy as possible to buy crypto, but hard to SEND it. I bet if I sent it to another paypal user within the sytem (vs. a random wallet) they wouldn't care at all.

Question:

I am starting to believe that there will never be another altcoin season so I am debating on taking a loss on a bunch of alts I have accumulated that are down significantly and just convert them all to BTC. My only exceptions would be a couple of alts that I am looking at long term that I own a decent amount of. I really want to get rid of the majority of everything else and just go straight BTC.

Starting today, homebuyers can pledge Bitcoin as downpayment collateral through a new Coinbase + Better Home & Finance program backed by Fannie Mae, which underwrites roughly half of all U.S. mortgages.

Here are the key elements:

--Homebuyers don't sell their bitcoin so there's no taxable event

--No margin calls, so if Bitcoin drops 30%, the mortgage terms don't change

I just want to share something for people who are new. A few years ago when I first started buying, the market was already dropping from its highs. At the beginning, I actually stuck to my plan and kept buying slowly. As the price went down, I saw it as a chance to get more BTC at lower prices.

But things changed later. As the price kept falling, I started to feel uneasy. Every drop made me wonder if it would go even lower. At some point I just stopped my DCA and decided to wait and see. I told myself I would come back in when things looked clearer. Looking back now, that was exactly the period I should have kept buying.

I have also seen a lot of similar stories. Some people kept buying from around 40k all the way down to 18k, which was the right direction. But either they did not buy enough, or they got distracted and put some money into altcoins. Some of those went up for a while, but many did not last. If that money had just stayed in BTC, the outcome would likely have been very different.

When the market started to recover, I realized the problem was not the market, it was me. I thought I was managing risk, but I was really just reacting to emotions. It is easy to make a plan, but the hard part is sticking to it when things look the worst.

Now I keep things simple. I do not try to time the market anymore. I just follow a fixed schedule and keep buying. I set up my DCA so I do not have to make decisions in the moment. Since I have been in BTC for a while, I sometimes do a bit of spot trading on BYDFi, but most of my position is still just long term holding.

This market cycle actually feels similar to back then, so I am sticking to my plan and buying every week. In the long run, I still believe adoption will keep growing.

Been waiting for better entry point and decided 65k is where I'll make big move. Planning to liquidate significant portion from my equity investments and go heavy on Bitcoin at that level.

For now just doing regular purchases whenever these smaller drops happen. Yeah 25k would be amazing opportunity but doesn't seem realistic anymore. 65k feels like more achievable target where I can really load up the bags.

I’m a UK-based user of Gemini and I’ve been trying to withdraw my Bitcoin for weeks with no success.

Every time I attempt a withdrawal, I get stuck in a broken authentication loop:

• I swipe to confirm the withdrawal
• It then asks me to approve via Authy
• But Gemini has removed Authy/SMS support
• And there is nowhere to enter the code

So the withdrawal just… can’t complete.

My account was recently recovered, and since then withdrawals appear to be restricted. I’ve contacted support multiple times and only get generic responses like “we’re working on it.”

Now the really concerning part:
Gemini is shutting down operations in the UK soon, and I still cannot access my funds.

At this point, it feels like my assets are effectively locked due to a system failure on their side.

Has anyone else experienced:

• The Authy/passkey issue?
• Withdrawal blocks after account recovery?
• Any success actually getting funds out recently?

I’ve now escalated this to the Financial Conduct Authority and the Financial Ombudsman Service.

What are the challenges in building a ‘proof of work’ system that is based on physical activity?

For example using gps to track how many steps a miner made so it will be considered as ‘work’ in that sense.

Even more crazy idea is to build a gym machines that measure the energy that people spend on it so it will be considered as POW for them.

Because I think it will be pretty cool way to train!

It’s a POW system that actually motivates people to make positive meaningful work rather then just wasting electricity.

This idea actually takes makes a win win situation for two different issues - gym work, and POW, because going to gym feels psychological like energy wasting while POW actually needs sort of resource wasting.

Hello all, before I elaborate my question here is a little bit of context:

I just went on a trip in Africa (Zanzibar) and found myself face to face with the hard truth of the world we live in. The poverty in which the general public lives and the helplessness against the "democratic" or "republic" government was an eye opener for me.

Don't get me wrong, I am not living in my dreamworld where I think everyone has the same privilege and everywhere is the same as in my home country, but knowing this and seeing this first hand for the first time are two different things. So while listening to the local guide narrating how they live, the corrupted government, the various percentages on how much work or how much money you need to live and that their currency is down right really bad and under valuated and I thought to myself that Bitcoin could resolve a lot of these issues.

So now that I have finished with the context here is my question: how the fuck can I or a group start BTC in a country so in need like Zanzibar? Where do you start? Who do you talk to? How can someone like me help the locals?

I had more questions, but that is the gist of it and so I did a quick brainstorming, but couldn't find any real answers or solutions because I am still lacking a lot of knowledge and experience.

To have BTC you need two things: a stable internet connection and stable and continuous electricity - both things which are lacking in the whole country (during my stay there were each day two to five power shortages and the internet was not the best kind - the general public is still stuck in 3G) so, with my current lack of knowledge, one should start with creating a functional electric and internet connection and then, or during this process, instruct the locals how to use it, am I right ?

I would love to have a online Brainstorming with everyone here because I think it would be beneficial to have more knowledge on this topic instead of just focusing only on the price site of BTC.

Here’s what I have so far:

• A .dat / dump file generated from PyWallet • It contains encrypted keys and wallet data • I don’t fully remember the password, but I might recognize it if I see patterns 

What I need help with:

• How to properly decrypt or extract private keys from a PyWallet dump • Recommended tools or updated methods (since PyWallet seems outdated) • Best approach to attempt password recovery (without corrupting the file)

thing about bitcoin is, that it already is, and almost instantly had, a global reaching market, a currency bought with all kinds of different currencies or assets, on markets which, in comparison, almost seem outdatet, in need of resourcement.

Most people think HODL is just “buy and wait,” but that’s the surface level. The reality is most fail because they don’t understand what they’re holding, no fundamentals, no conviction, just hype. When volatility hits, that lack of understanding turns into panic selling. Real HODLing requires clarity on the asset, belief backed by research, and the discipline to sit through drawdowns without reacting emotionally.

I have been trying to figure this out lately. What do you do in real life when you want to spend money that you mostly keep in self-custody? Do you usually move it to an exchange first and change it to fiat, or do you use a card or some other way? Today I noticed a discrepancy involving my crypto wallets.

When I opened my Trust Wallet, it showed a total balance of 0.4 BTC, even though I had approximately 0.5 BTC in my Coinbase Wallet.

Shortly after, I received a notification from Trust Wallet indicating that 0.05 BTC had been transferred, which I did not authorize or initiate.

Concerned, I proceeded to transfer my funds from Coinbase Wallet to my Wealthsimple account in three transactions:

• 0.002 BTC • 0.2 BTC • 0.3 BTC 

This totaled 0.5 BTC, which was successfully received by Wealthsimple.

However, when I checked Trust Wallet again, it showed three outgoing transactions totaling 0.4 BTC:

• 0.05 BTC • 0.12 BTC • 0.22 BTC

To verify, I checked both wallet addresses using a blockchain explorer. The results showed:

• Trust Wallet address: total of 0.4 BTC sent • Wealthsimple address: total of 0.5 BTC received 

This creates a discrepancy between what Trust Wallet reports and what was actually received in Wealthsimple.

In 2022 I really was glued to events in Bitcoin's huge drawdown. I do look at the price every day (okay, maybe twice a day) but this time I really have hardly been bothered. Minus 45% down is a LOT but for some reason it has not really felt like a lot. Maybe I am just so sure of its value now that I am less concerned. At bottom, Bitcoin was down by more than half from its $126k high. If my mutual funds were -45% right now I would be far more worried. Is anyone else just less worried now than in previous years?

At this moment buying bitcoin regularly is the only thing I’m truly confident in long term. The Stock market even during these extreme red days are still trading at high valuations and are not too far off from their all time highs. Additional contributions at this point seem like feeding a fire.

Bitcoin goes up. Bitcoin goes down. Bitcoin from where it stands right now will always be there.

Good morning! I’m thinking about getting a gift for my partner. He already has a Coldcard Q and has invested some money (not a lot) in Bitcoin. For his birthday, I’m torn between the well-known Blockclock or a NerdQaxe++.

He’s never mined before, but it seems like a cool and original gift. Something the Blockclock doesn’t offer.

I’ve also considered a less powerful option, the Nerdaxe Gamma, since it uses less energy and, in the end, it would just be for fun.

What do you think? Is it silly to buy something for mining just for fun? Would it be better to gift him that money in Bitcoin? Or go for the Blockclock?

I've traded insignificant amounts of BTC on Robinhood and noticed when I sold this morning, the price on the chart showed around $70,700. But when I go to sell, I can only sell for 70,050, while I can only buy for 71,200.

That's like a 1% difference from what I expect from what i see on the price, and a 2% loss if I bought and sold at the same time.

I was scrolling through the top posts of all time on this subreddit, and something really caught my attention. Two of the biggest posts ever are basically milestones: Bitcoin hitting $10,000 (around 8 years ago) Bitcoin hitting $100,000 (about a year ago) It made me pause for a second… because at those moments, both probably felt insane. Like a “we finally made it” kind of milestone. Now I’m wondering: When do you guys think we’ll see the same kind of post for $1,000,000? Also curious, what do you think would need to happen for that to become reality? Institutional adoption, inflation, global financial shifts…? It’s crazy how each milestone once felt impossible… until it wasn’t.

Where:

- n = secp256k1 curve order

The probability of this happening by chance is about 0.04%, which strongly suggests intentional mathematical design by Satoshi.

The repeating pattern (n XOR genesis) / 7 starts with 0x24924924924924924924924924924924, which is exactly (2^256 - 2)/7 in hex.

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere in Bitcoin literature.

Yeah, what sounds bad to you sounds GREAT to me. There's VALUE in a system that is 100% transparent, fully decentralized, immutable, and limited in supply. Hello my fellow bitcoiners, I have recently installed bitcoin core and am running a full node with both in/outbound connections. It was a pain getting inbound traffic to come through port 8333 but eventually got it to work. I am now attempting to run a lightning node (LND) on top of core with standard port 9735 connectivity, but am running into issues with "canyouseeme.org" not seeing port 9735 available for inbound traffic. It has no issues seeing 8333, just not 9735. I run lnd.exe and lncli.exe and can only connect to peers for a few seconds before they drop me. Probably due to not getting their response at where they are trying to reach me back at..which is 9735..connection initiates with the peer since outbound traffic works fine but I cannot get anything back from my peer. I have allowed port 9735 in my router(that worked for 8333) but still cannot be seen by canyouseeme.org..I ran the netstat -ano | findstr 9735 command and I can see 0.0.0.0:9735 LISTENING while lnd is running and if I close lnd and lncli.exe nothing is listening to that port and so nothing is tying it up so what gives? ISP said they can see that 9735 is set up for inbound traffic, so this is something local on my side. Maybe an issue with my config file..? I've been at it for hours and definitely need some advice. Thanks to anyone willing to help!

Just surpassed my first xxx amount of BTC. However im using a Ledger Nano s plus that I got off of Amazon to store it all. I know I shouldn't have done that but you live and you learn. I generated my own passphrase and everything. So it wasnt pre seeded, and I pass all authenticity tests.

My question is, should I move my funds off of my Ledger? Or is it safe for now? I know open source is preferred, but is it worth spending ~300-400 CAD on a coldcard mq, jade plus, etc? Or am I better sitting with my Ledger for now? Tbh id rather put extra cash into more BTC, but I know security is the most important.

This is the situation:

I had a friend send me btc over the years to Coinbase. There was a substantial amount there I sent it further to sell and i received, up until 2019.

Then I left the remaining balance on Coinbase and didn't touch it. Well i logged in with same info and it recreated my account. Long story short, they deleted my account claiming there were no transactions in it EVER and it was inactive. Which is entirely untrue. I have email confirmations for every single transaction from Coinbase in my email account. The difference is for the btc i sent the notification is: "you sent x amount of btc to this xyz address". Based on the notification i can see the transaction on the blockchain, clearly indicating there were transactions. Unfortunately, and conveniently for Coinbase, the notification for receiving btc was just: "you received x amount of btc". Not stating from whom or nothing, so I can't find it on the blockchain.

Anyway I've been talking to their support the whole day and thy continue claiming they deleted the account due to inactivity and 0 all time transactions, which again I've proven to them to not be the case.

What can I do? I'm pretty certain there is a significant amount on there but I have no way of finding out specifically how much or retrieving this amount cause Coinbase support is awful.

UPDATE:

They magically found my transaction history now, and the balance is 0.

Sometimes it doesn't feel real that we're under $70K right now and have the opportunity to buy at this time.

Looking back in a few years and we'll all wish that we had this chance again. I'm trying to get as much as I can right now because once that ship sails... It's gone my friends.

About 10 years ago, I bought 0.2 Bitcoin out of curiosity, and recently I happened upon the document where I wrote down the information about it. There are a few user names and passwords that I don’t quite know what they are good for, so I installed Bluewallet (iOS) which asked me for a seed. So I entered this “seed“ phrase, which seems to be correct, and now I can see the balance (0.218797) in my BlueWallet wallet.
1) I guess this means that I could sell these 0.21…. Bitcoin if I wanted to (I don’t want to, it’s hypothetical)? Would I need a password? Im pretty sure i have the correct password, but how can I test this without actually selling anything?

2) I don’t understand where my 0.2… Bitcoin is stored. I think it’s not stored on my device, otherwise I wouldn’t need the seed phrase to access it, right? So how can I know where it is stored?

3) (Related to Q 2): If I wanted to buy a little more, how could I add that to my existing balance rather than creating a new wallet?

Is that password protected in a simple way? For example, could I have a USB stick with a password of Password1234, no matter how stupid that would be.

And finally if someone knew that password and took the USB drive, do they effectively take all your Bitcoin.

I have a friend who is definitely not tech-savvy who mentioned that she bought about 20 BTC as a joke in 2013. She says she documented all of the procedures and passwords at the behest of a tech friend she doesn't speak to any longer. She also still has the laptop from 2013 that she apparently did all this with, which doesn't seem to boot up. I did help her find the exchange she used and confirmed through the log that she sent 16.1 BTC to this wallet of hers.

I have been researching the common wallets and am not sure if she had a web-based or software-based wallet. I believe (hoping) it was software-based and found the top five from that time. Apparently the web-based wallets suffered a high casualty rate.

So it seems like it would be best to get the original laptop working again, even though she said she backed it up, the Bitcoin-related data was apparently on a different partition and I don't think she backed up that partition, as she just did time machine backups.

Seems like a good next step? Thanks in advance.

I’d like your opinion on a strategy I’ve been considering. It’s based on the current Bitcoin price (around $69k) and a daily investment of $25, adjusted dynamically as the price changes. For example, if the price rises to $70k, I would reduce my daily investment to $24; if it drops to $68k, I would increase it to $26, and so on. My goal is to lower my average entry price over time while continuing a long-term DCA approach.

“I was 24 in 2017, fresh out of college, scraping by on ramen and side gigs. A crypto-savvy coworker convinced me to throw my entire savings—about $8,000—into Bitcoin. I ended up with roughly 2.1 BTC at around $3,800 avg. Felt unstoppable. Then 2018 hit: price crashed to $3k, I freaked out thinking it was a scam bubble bursting. Sold every single one to ‘cut losses’ and pay off student loans + buy a used car to get to a better job. Used the cash for real-life adulting. Fast forward: 2021 peak at $69k, I calculated what that would’ve been… over $140k gone. 2022 bear, I tried buying back scraps but could only afford 0.3 BTC. Instead I drive the same beat-up car, still renting, and every time I see the price chart I feel physically sick. Worst part? I told my family it was ‘smart’ to sell. Feels like there are a handful of teams doing real work, but they don't always get the visibility they deserve.

Which ones stand out to you, and what specifically are they doing right?

You can get some insight from past trends sure.. but that doesn’t mean that those trends will continue in the future.

What people fail to realize is that the graph of bitcoin over its entire history is really a graph of everyone’s emotions and willingness to buy/sell at a current price point, given current market conditions for the time.

As attitudes and sentiment change, so will the graph and behavior of BTC. With more big money getting into BTC, the behavior of it will change significantly. But it’s really the behavior of aggregate people all over the world, which is driven mostly by emotion and confidence (or lack there of).

So the people who claim to know where it is going at anytime just sound stupid to me. That’s all

I've set myself this goal of reaching one full coin by 2036, which keeps me motivated even during those rough market days. When prices drop I actually get a bit excited knowing I can grab more for my money

Currently doing weekly buys of about £220 and crossing my fingers that we don't see massive price jumps too soon, otherwise my timeline might get messed up

Lately, I’ve been questioning how my fellow Bit coiners view risk, especially when it comes to the whole “all-in” mindset. It’s almost like putting 90%–100% of your net worth into Bitcoin is seen as admirable, while diversification gets brushed off as a lack of belief.

But if you take a step back, concentrating nearly everything into a single asset, no matter how strong the long-term narrative is, it still carries serious risk. We talk a lot about building wealth, yet at the same time we’re exposing our present-day stability to something that’s still highly volatile and unpredictable.

It makes me wonder whether this “all-in” approach is actually a sign of bold conviction, or if it’s just something we’ve collectively normalized because we’re all immersed in the same ecosystem. If things don’t play out the way we expect, it’s not just a temporary loss, it could mean starting over entirely.

I’m curious how others think about this. Do you keep a more traditional safety net on the side, or have you reached a point where Bitcoin feels like the only place you trust with your money?

Where do you personally draw the line between strong belief and responsible risk management?

As the price fluctuates, people’s perception of bitcoin’s movement tends to bounce between doomsday crash/ Naïve moon optimism.

One day this sub is full of moons shitting on people for missing the boat after the price went up by 50$ and the next day everybody is asking what is the potential bottom?

Overall I believe this whole year is going to be a negative one for the global economy due to so many socioeconomic and subsequently political reasons from wars of expansion to nations trying to cement their stranglehold on earth’s critical resources and of all the madness ensuing from that attempt.

Recognize what you need to do and do it, if you in for the long run that’s good if not then you are gambling and accept however it ends up.

I think 10$ a day is a reasonable DCA amount. Of course the wife thinks it’s too heavy. Then in the 60k range I feel the need to double down. Thoughts?

Is there a website service for that? I want to be able to offer bitcoin as a payment option on my website. Currently, I use Stripe as the main one. I would like to be able to generate invoices from it like Stripe does. Is it possible?

My name is Marc, I’m 20 years old, and I want to quickly share my story with you.

A while ago I really started learning about Bitcoin and I see in it what many people still don’t see. At first my goal was simple: instead of letting my money sit in a bank savings account, I wanted to use Bitcoin to actually build a future for myself. Meanwhile it has become much more than that.

I work full-time as a paramedic (emergency medical technician). Right now I’ve increased my hours to 120% — that means roughly 6 days a week. At these prices I want to earn and stack as much Bitcoin as possible.

Currently I’m only 0.00868 BTC away from my first 0.1 Bitcoin. According to my plan I should hit that in about 2 weeks — and I definitely won’t stop there.

I also just cashed out an old pension insurance policy that my grandparents set up for me years ago. There was around $4,000 on it. Realistically I would have only received about $40 per month in retirement from it, so I decided to take the money now and put it all into Bitcoin instead. Who knows — maybe this decision will one day change my entire life.

With realistic projections I should reach around 0.15 BTC in a few months. If things continue to go well, 0.25 BTC by 2026-2027 feels very achievable.

Bitcoin isn’t just an investment for me anymore.

It’s the opportunity I want to go all-in on while I’m still young and able to push hard.

I’ve been buying BTC through P2P with cash, but the fees/premiums are getting out of hand. It just doesn’t feel worth it anymore at these rates.

At the same time, I don’t want to use a CEX or deal with KYC. What are you guys using as alternatives that are still relatively private but not as expensive as P2P?

I want to have BTC exposure in my Roth IRA. I was going to purchase IBIT but am really struggling with accepting the fact that there is risk associated with who holds custody of the underlying bitcoin. I like the fact that it is tax advantaged but if shit hits the fan I could lose my investment. What is coinbase (the custodian) gets its assets seized from the gov in some hypothetical future scenario? There are a ton of possible points of failure. What are your thoughts on my dilemma? Curious to hear from others who have had to make this consideration

Guys, this is next level disturbing. The letter obviously has my full name and home address in order to get delivered. The contents of the letter goes on about Trezor’s new “Authentication Code” going into effect here soon and to scan the QR code on the letter to activate it. It had all the legal mumble jumble and very official looking. Be safe out there everyone. Scammers are not only using the internet.

Most of us spend a huge amount of time securing our stacks with hardware wallets, multisig, and seed phrases, but we rarely talk about the "recovery" side for our families.

My best mate told me this story last night about his weekend: His 5-year-old son and the lad’s little friend found his not-particularly-well-hidden Billfodl, opened it, and helpfully “reorganised” the letters because they assumed it was a puzzle. I’m still laughing.

Bit of a heart-stopper at first, obviously, but not actually a disaster. He was able to generate a new seed and move the assets over completely.

So yes, friendly reminder: it’s not just malicious actors out in the wild you need to worry about. Sometimes the threat model lives in your house with no bad intentions at all.

So I've been tinkering with this calculator that models borrowing against your Bitcoin stack instead of selling it - basically that whole hold-forever strategy where you use your coins as collateral

Been wondering myself how big my Bitcoin position needs to be before I can stop worrying about traditional retirement planning, so figured I'd build something to crunch the numbers

The idea is pretty straightforward: you keep your Bitcoin, borrow cash against it when you need money, and theoretically never have to sell (avoiding taxes and keeping exposure to price appreciation)

But working out the math gets tricky fast because you need to consider:

- How much you can actually borrow without getting liquidated

- What happens if Bitcoin crashes and your loan-to-value ratio gets dangerous

- Whether the borrowing costs eat into your gains too much

- How the debt compounds over 15-20 years of retirement

The calculator I put together lets you play with different scenarios - punch in your current Bitcoin amount, set annual withdrawal needs, adjust interest rate assumptions, and see if your strategy survives various market conditions

You can test conservative approaches (lower LTV ratios) versus more aggressive ones, factor in Bitcoin's historical growth patterns, and see exactly where things might go wrong
